The holidays are coming, as a popular fizzy drink tends to remind us about this time of year. For parents this means having the kids at home for several weeks and, until the big day itself, keeping them entertained.
To help give you some inspiration, we’ve put together some suggestions for fun family activities and simple things to keep the kids occupied over Christmas.
Yorkshire’s Winter Wonderland
For a delightfully festive day out, you could find your local winter festival event, such as Yorkshire’s Winter Wonderland, home to northern England’s largest ice rink. There’s a giant Christmas tree surrounded by chalets, a Santa’s grotto, and some unique vintage funfair rides for a beautifully traditional festive feeling. Why not see what’s available in your area.
Candy Cane Hunt
Swap the Easter eggs for candy canes, and you have yourself a fun and festive game for playing indoors or outdoors (depending on the weather, of course). They’re cheap to buy and easy to hide around the house – just hook them onto door handles or curtain rails, or hide one amongst the toothbrushes.
Board Games
Christmas is the perfect time to dust off those old board games and have some great family time together. With most versions of games now being available online you’ll have easy access to favourites such as Trivial Pursuit and Monopoly.
Mini paper angels
Crafty projects are always fun for days at home with the kids, and even better when it gives you some handmade Christmas decorations. These mini paper angels are simple to put together and can be decorated in any way you like. Cut them out in advance for younger kids, and let them glue and stick bits of tinsel and sequins to their heart’s content.
Visit a Christmas market
There are Christmas markets all over the country, so you’re never far away from an afternoon spent amongst festive cheer and unique gift ideas. Manchester is home to one of the biggest in Europe, with ten different locations across the city, including the main one in Albert Square with its big Santa Claus on top of the Town Hall.
