When the weather is bad and you’re still recovering from the cost of Christmas, keeping the family entertained can be tricky. It’s always a good idea to have a few activities up your sleeve to help keep boredom at bay – here are some of our favourites.
Whether it’s baking a cake, making a pizza or cooking a special meal together, cooking is a brilliant family activity which also helps kids to learn new skills. You can make it into an all afternoon activity by picking the recipes altogether, going to get all the ingredients (if necessary) and then getting started in the kitchen. Here are some links to some kid-friendly recipes:
This one is a classic – everyone picks one film (depending on how long you’ve got of course), you get comfy and watch them all day. Make a big bowl of popcorn or some of your favourite snacks, and settle in for the long haul. To make it even more interesting you could also do a little quiz about the film after it’s finished, but even if you don’t it’s a great way to spend the day.
Fun and practical – get the kids to bring all their clothes downstairs and do a fashion show – you could even make a runway out of furniture if you’re able to. This will be great fun for them but also give you a chance to sort through their clothes and gather the ones they don’t wear anymore (these will be the ones they don’t want to wear in the fashion show) or that don’t fit. You can either give these to charity or go on eBay and see if you can make some money off them, ready to buy some new ones.
